In Memory of William Joseph “Bill” Matthews (1944–2025)
It is with sadness, but also with fond memories, that we acknowledge the passing of William Joseph “Bill” Matthews, a founding partner of Elliott McCrea Law’s predecessor firm Matthews McCrea Elliott, who passed away on March 19, 2025—his 81st birthday.
Bill was a respected legal mind and a dedicated member of the New Brunswick Bar for over 50 years. As a leader in the legal, business, and broader Fredericton community, his vision helped establish the firm’s legacy of professionalism, service, and community connection.
Beyond his legal practice, Bill was a passionate advocate for community development and a generous supporter of many local organizations. His leadership, warmth, and unwavering commitment to Fredericton will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to work alongside him.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bill’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and legacy.
